Material is fed into a grinding chamber where a spinning disk with varying size pins create a torturous flow path. Particles are fractured through direct impact or from sheer forces against stator/fixed chamber surfaces leading to size reduction. Pin design and rotational speed of the disk can be varied to influence the size of the particles created.
